How can Quill & Reed help authors in Cambridge?
Cambridge has many scientists, founders and specialists with a book in them, as well as novelists and memoirists. For expert authors, we help decide early what the book is for: reaching readers, supporting a career or business, or both, because that changes how it should be published and marketed.
Support can cover early book development, manuscript guidance, editing, cover design, illustration, formatting, Amazon KDP and IngramSpark set-up, author websites, launch support and growth after publication. You choose what you need; nothing is bundled in by default.
Working remotely
Can I work with Quill & Reed remotely?
Yes, and that is how every project runs. Manuscripts and files are exchanged securely, conversations happen by video or phone, and proofs and approvals are handled digitally. You never need to travel, and your location does not change what is available to you.

Writing in Cambridge
Cambridge University Library is a legal deposit library with one of the largest open-access collections in Europe, and Cambridge University Press is the oldest university press in the world.
Cambridge Literary Festival holds events through the year, and the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education runs creative writing courses at Madingley Hall. Anglia Ruskin University also teaches writing.
The city’s science and technology sector means many local books are written by experts: popular science, business, health and technology. Those books usually benefit from a clear reader promise and a website that connects the book to the author’s wider work.
- Expert books need a reader, not just a subject
- Decide who the book is for and what they will be able to do or understand after reading it. That drives the structure, title, cover and where the book is found.

- If the book supports talks, consulting or a company, your author website should show the book and the work clearly, without turning the book into a brochure.

- Charts, diagrams and tables need to work in print and ebook. Plan them with formatting in mind.

Publishing support
What happens if I want to publish?
If your manuscript is ready, or nearly ready, the Publish packages cover cover design, formatting, ISBN guidance, set-up on Amazon KDP and IngramSpark in your name, and launch support. Editing and custom illustration are quoted separately, before anything is agreed.
Every package is a 12-month agreement with the monthly price and the total commitment shown up front. Prices are the same in Cambridge as anywhere else in the UK.
Already published?
Can you help if my book is already published?
Yes. Quill & Reed also works with authors whose books are already live but need more visibility, stronger positioning, an author website, email-list infrastructure, marketing content, relaunch support or ongoing growth. You do not need to republish with us.
The standalone Author Website plan is £99 a month for 12 months (£1,188 total), with the domain in your name.

Do you work with authors across Cambridgeshire and East Anglia?
Yes. Ely, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Norfolk, Suffolk or anywhere else: the work is done remotely.
Are you affiliated with the University of Cambridge?
No. Quill & Reed is independent and has no affiliation with the university or its press.
Can I work with Quill & Reed remotely?
Yes. Projects are run remotely: files and manuscripts are exchanged securely, conversations happen by video or phone, and proofs and approvals are handled digitally. You do not need to travel anywhere at any stage.
Do I keep my copyright and royalties?
Yes. You keep your copyright and your royalties, and the publishing accounts are set up in your name. Quill & Reed charges for services and takes no standard royalty percentage.
Can you help market my book?
Yes, through launch support in the Publish + Grow and Managed Author packages, or the Author Growth plan for books already out. Nobody honest can promise sales, rankings or reviews, and we do not.
Do you build author websites?
Yes. Author websites are planned around your books and readers, and the domain stays yours. Published authors can take the standalone Author Website plan.
