What is Managed Author?
Managed Author is Quill & Reed’s £299/month, 12-month package for authors who want more ongoing execution. It includes the publishing and platform services in Publish + Grow plus managed social scheduling, newsletter distribution, website management, campaign planning and basic Amazon Ads management.
The difference is who does the work.
Publish + Grow
We create much of the platform and content.
You schedule the posts, send the newsletters and run the day-to-day.
Managed Author
We take on more of the ongoing execution.
We schedule and publish approved posts, distribute newsletters, maintain the website and run campaigns.
Already published?
Also for books that are already out.
Managed Author is mainly for authors publishing through Quill & Reed. Where it makes sense, it can also support authors whose book is already published and who want more hands-on, ongoing growth support — working with the book and accounts you already have.
If you mainly need a website, or content and a plan you run yourself, the lighter Author Website or Author Growth plans may suit better. Managed Author is more hands-on execution, not a guaranteed commercial outcome.

Managed social
A steady publishing rhythm, without you running it.
We prepare posts, schedule approved posts, maintain a publishing rhythm, use approved author assets, support launch activity and adapt content for different platforms.
You stay responsible for personal authenticity, direct replies where appropriate, interviews, live engagement, and video or personality content that has to come from you. Full community management is not included.
Newsletters and website
Sent, maintained and kept current.
Newsletter distribution. Beyond drafting, we prepare, format, schedule and distribute your newsletter, keep a regular campaign rhythm and report basic engagement — subject to your approval, platform access and mailing-list consent requirements.
Website management. Book pages, new releases, reviews, events, news, media updates, calls to action, metadata and basic SEO upkeep. Unlimited redesigns are not included.
Reviews and ads
Handled honestly.
Review monitoring. We monitor public review activity where practical and use suitable reviews in approved marketing. We do not manufacture reviews, buy fake reviews or try to manipulate retailer review systems.
Basic Amazon Ads management. Campaign setup, keyword and theme testing, budget monitoring, basic optimisation and reporting. Ad spend is separate. There is no guaranteed return and no guaranteed sales, and Amazon — not Quill & Reed — controls its advertising platform.
Planning
Every month, and every quarter.
Monthly campaign planning may cover content priorities, seasonal hooks, book promotions, reviews, the newsletter, website updates, launch activity, future-book activity and advertising where appropriate.
Every quarter, we step back and review what content performed best, audience growth, website activity, email performance, book positioning, retailer metadata, advertising activity, upcoming opportunities and next-book progress. The point is useful decisions, not a vanity-metric report.

Depending on the book, that could mean developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, specialist illustration, maps, technical diagrams or advanced artwork.
These are quoted separately, and no work is commissioned without your approval. Advertising spend is also always separate.
Need more support later?
You may start with one level of support and later discuss moving to a higher-support package, where that works for your book and schedule. The exact arrangements will be set out clearly before anything changes.

Do you manage my social accounts?
We prepare, schedule and publish approved posts to the accounts you give us access to. The accounts remain yours.
Do I approve content before it is published?
Yes. Content is agreed with you, and you can be as involved in approvals as you want.
Do you reply to readers?
No. Direct replies and personal interaction should come from you. Readers want to hear from the author, and we do not impersonate you.
Do you manage my website?
Yes. We keep book pages, releases, reviews, events, news, media updates, calls to action and basic SEO up to date. Unlimited redesigns are not included.
Do you send newsletters?
Yes. We prepare, format, schedule and distribute them, and report basic engagement — subject to your approval, platform access and mailing-list consent requirements.
Is ad spend included?
No. Basic Amazon Ads management is included; the advertising budget is separate and paid by you.
Can you guarantee book sales?
No. There is no guaranteed return on advertising and no guaranteed sales.
Can you manage multiple books?
Yes. Managed Author is designed for authors who keep publishing, and campaigns can cover more than one title.
Can you help with a series?
Yes. We help keep branding, covers, website, launches, series positioning and reader communication consistent.
Can I provide my own content?
Yes, and it is encouraged. Your own photos, videos and thoughts often perform better than anything we could write for you.
What happens if I want to change the marketing direction?
Tell us. The monthly planning and quarterly strategy review exist so direction can change based on what is useful.
What happens after 12 months?
Before your first agreement ends, we will explain the available ongoing options clearly. Your book, accounts, website and reader data stay yours either way.
