How does Quill & Reed work with authors?
Quill & Reed starts by identifying where an author actually is — idea, draft, finished manuscript or published book — and recommends the next sensible step. Before production we review the manuscript and goals, bring in specialists only where the book needs them, and ask the author to approve each major decision.

Start with the author’s stage
We do not start conversations with “which package would you like?”. A writer with an idea and an author with a professionally edited manuscript need entirely different things, and recommending a package too early usually means recommending the wrong one.

Review before production
Before any publishing work starts, we want to understand the manuscript and what the author wants from it. That is when we can spot where specialist work is genuinely needed — and where it is not.

Specialists where needed
Developmental editors, copy editors, proofreaders, illustrators, cover designers and other specialists are brought in only when the book calls for them. Quill & Reed manages the relationship so the author has one main point of contact.
